A Winter Overnight in Peterborough

The holidays have come and gone, leaving us with chilly winter days that are perfect for enjoying small towns and winter activities. If you’re looking to get away for a night or two, take a look at our itinerary for winter fun below!

These matching earmuffs and scarves at Anytime Apparel are perfect for these chilly days!

Start your visit to Peterborough with some shopping in Depot Square. There’s plenty of shops downtown that offer unique and local finds, especially with brisk January days upon us. Head over to Anytime Apparel and Joseph’s Coat for a little extra warmth. Shop scarves, sweaters and more while you work up an appetite.

To go container, wax bag of napkins and a glass bottle of tea
Tasty sandwiches and teas from Harlow’s is what we had for lunch.

Next, snag a filling lunch at Harlow’s Pub or Aesop’s Tables. Order online or over the phone, then head over to pick up your meal. Harlow’s offers curbside pickup, while you can grab your lunch from Aesop’s inside the Toadstool Bookstore after you take a look through some reading choices. Both restaurants are delicious and filling, with lots of options for everyone.

Now that you’ve warmed up and gotten something delicious to eat, it’s time to enjoy a beautiful view of Mount Monadnock while doing some outdoor fun. Pop on ice grips to your boots or set your feet in your snowshoes for a hike around Cathedral of the Pines.

After your winter adventure, warm up in your room at the Jack Daniels Motor Inn! With touch-less check in, you can settle into the hotel with ease of mind. Relax in our comfortable rooms before you head out to dinner.

These awesome igloos mean you can eat outdoors even in the winter at Waterhouse!

With both takeout and some limited seating options, Waterhouse also offers a special treat – igloos! Make some reservations to sit outside by the river on their patio in their new igloo tents to enjoy dinner or take it to go. Afterwards, you can relax in your warm room back at the inn.

Our grab and go breakfast is easy to enjoy in your rooms and fills you up!

In the morning, enjoy a cup of coffee and something from our grab and go selection, or order takeout breakfast from somewhere like The Bagel Mill or Peterborough Diner. If you’re not quite ready to leave the Peterborough area yet, one of our staff can make some great suggestions on things to do for some more winter fun.

Barely a two minute drive from the inn, Shieling Forest makes for a second day of activities within Peterborough.

For more snowshoeing and winter hiking adventures, we suggest checking out Shieling State Forest just up the road from the inn! Decide to stay in town for a bit longer? We can help with that! You can even see about adding a second night to turn it into a weekend away. Check and see what we have available here in order to start planning your winter getaway. We hope we see you soon!
