The Return of Concerts and Movies in the Monadnock Region

An old farmhouse converted into a theatre is painted gray, with red doors. A pathway leads from the foreground toward the threatre, while a tree trunk takes up the left half.
The Peterborough Players are ready to welcome you back!

This summer has been the summer of comebacks for the Monadnock region. While last month we talked about outdoor concert series so folks could have fun while being safe, this month we bring you several returning theatres and live music events that have been sorely missed by all. Whether you prefer to take in a movie, see a band on stage, or watch a play, there’s something for you this season below!

For those who aren’t familiar, the play Our Town by Thornton Wilder has a very special place in the hearts of those from Peterborough. Wilder wrote his famous play while attending MacDowell Colony, basing much of the settings on locations in town. For the first play of the year, Peterborough Players performed Our Town outdoors amongst the buildings of downtown to create an amazing backdrop for the play. The rest of their season will take place in the Peterborough Players playhouse, starting with Hairspray which is on now. Head over to their site to look at dates and upcoming plays and take in the first season in a year from the Players!

Park Theatre’s new building looks absolutely beautiful!

The Park Theatre in Jaffrey NH is celebrating its grand opening after more than 15 years of planning and building. It’s been many decades since the theatre’s predecessor closed, and with its opening they bring a plethora of arts and entertainment back to downtown Jaffrey. Each week they screen a new movie, as well as have live music and events planned like magic shows and more. To see their current lineup and more, check out their website here!

Now showing! The Peterborough Community Theatre is open with movie screenings most days of the week!

The Peterborough Community Theatre continued to operate throughout the pandemic in a unique way by offering private rentals. Families and those who missed movie theaters could partake, supporting the theatre at the same time. Now they are back with their own screenings, as well as providing what they call ‘Safer Sundays and Thursdays’ for folks who are vaccinated. You can still rent out the theater for yourself of course, but you can also check out their lineup of movies coming soon on their website here and return to the theater!

The Colonial Theatre’s SHOWROOM venue is now open, with a full lineup of events!

Take in a concert in safety this season at the Colonial Theatre in Keene! Utilizing their new venue called SHOWROOM, the Colonial Theatre is offering smaller, intimate concerts and shows with up-and-coming artists all season long. You can see their show schedule and more at their website here and plan ahead your evening out. Make sure to read their requirements first – proof of vaccination or a negative covid test are required for the safety and comfort of all!

Superwolves are one of the many different bands and musicians scheduled for Long Live the Thing!

Thing in the Spring is a much-anticipated event that happens every year in Peterborough. While of course last year and this year dampened the chances of enjoying this event, the Glass Museum is hosting their Long Live the Thing event on September 4th ! Plan for a day of music behind Peterborough’s townhouse (the same location Peterborough Players did Our Town in!) along with local food trucks to celebrate the two years of missed Thing in the Springs! You can see the lineup and more info over on the Facebook event page here!
